About the Author
Flavio Faloci was born in Rome, Italy in 1965, and resides in Genova (Genoa) not far from the house of Christopher Columbus. His life-long connection with the sea began several generations ago. His grandfather was a tall ship captain and ship owner, as were several generations before his grandfather. Flavio began sailing Optis and building models by age ten. He is a sailing instructor for dinghies and cruising keelboats with the Centor Velico Caprera, the largest sailing/seamanship school in the Mediterranean. Flavio has worked as a yacht surveyor, yacht designer, and is currently employed as a naval architect at the head office of the Registro Italiano Navale, which is the Italian equivalent of the American Bureau of Ships (ABS). He has also been team captain and chief designer of the Trieste Waterbike Team, current holder of the Guinness record for longest distance covered in 24 hours.

About the Author
Simon Emmerson is Professor of Music, Technology and Innovation at De Montfort University, Leicester. As a composer, he works mostly with live electronics, recently for Sond'Arte (Lisbon), and acousmatic work for the Inventionen Festival (Berlin). His books include The Language of Electroacoustic Music (1986), Music, Electronic Media and Culture (2000) and Living Electronic Music (2007). In 2009-2010, he was DAAD Edgar Varese Visiting Professor at the TU, Berlin.

Leigh Landy directs the Music, Technology and Innovation Research Centre at De Montfort University. His scholarship is divided between creative and musicological work, and his compositions have been performed around the globe. He is editor of the journal Organised Sound and author of several books including Understanding the Art of Sound Organization (2007) and Making Music with Sounds (2012). He directs the ElectroAcoustic Resource Site (EARS) projects and is a founding director of the Electroacoustic Music Studies Network (EMS).

This text does address the specific types of radar systems most likely to be associated with a modern integrated air defense system (lADS).

To introduce the reader to EW, Electronic Warfare Fundamentals begins with a brief history of radar, an overview of radar capabilities, and a brief introduction to the threat systems associated with a typical lADS. The two subsequent chapters introduce the theory and characteristics of radio frequency (RF) energy as it relates to radar operations. These are followed by radar signal characteristics, radar system components, and radar target discrimination capabilities. The book continues with a discussion of antenna types and scans, target tracking, and missile guidance techniques.

The next step in the building-block approach is a detailed description of countermeasures designed to defeat radar systems. The text presents the theory and employment considerations for both noise and deception jamming techniques and their impact on radar systems. This is followed by a chapter on decoys, both for defeating an IADS as well as for self-protection. Then, the next chapter discusses chaff characteristics, employment, and impact on specific radar systems.

Intertextuality is a set of relations with other texts, which can include direct quotations, allusions, literary conventions, imitation, parody and unconscious sources amongst others. Intertextuality also involves assumptions regarding the existing knowledge of the reader, the situation being referred to, and its context. 

This book presents aspects of intertextuality in three primary sources. These sources are the script of the motion picture The Matrix written by directors Andy and Larry Wachowski, and the books Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll.

In The Matrix there are few explicit references to Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. However, review writers and researchers covering The Matrix have suggested that there are many other elements of intertextuality of a less obvious nature which closely link the Alice books andThe Matrix.

This book by Voicu Mihnea Simandan presents both the explicit references and the less direct ones, giving evidence from primary and secondary sources. About the Author
Voicu Mihnea Simandan is a Romanian writer and freelance journalist who was born in 1978 in Arad, a small city in Transylvania. He has published short stories, non-fiction, and books for children. He has been calling Thailand home since 2002 and he has been a member of the Bangkok Writers' Guild since 2009 and a member of AP Writers since 2012. He is now teaching Language Arts and Social Studies at an international school in Bangkok. He loves archery, martial arts and travelling.
